Routine vaccines

Make sure all your routine vaccines are up to date, including chickenpox, tetanus, flu, MMR, polio, and shingles.

COVID-19

Stay up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines before traveling.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for all travelers to Gambia age 1 and older, including infants 6-11 months.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for travelers under 60. Those 60 and older may also consider vaccination.

Measles

All travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with MMR vaccine at least 2 weeks before travel, including infants 6-11 months.

Typhoid

Typhoid vaccine is recommended for most travelers to Gambia, especially if staying with locals or visiting rural areas.

Chikungunya

Chikungunya vaccine is generally not recommended. Focus on preventing mosquito bites instead.

Meningococcal disease

Meningococcal vaccine is recommended if traveling to meningitis belt areas of Gambia during dry season (December-June).

Rabies

Consider rabies vaccine before travel if you'll be around animals or in remote areas, as rabies vaccines may only be available in larger medical facilities.

Yellow Fever

Yellow fever vaccine is recommended for all travelers 9 months and older. Required if coming from countries with yellow fever risk or transiting through them for more than 12 hours.
