Recommended vaccines
Routine Vaccines
Make sure you are current on all routine vaccines including chickenpox, tetanus, flu, measles-mumps-rubella, polio, and shingles before traveling.
COVID-19
Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines before traveling.
Chikungunya
Chikungunya vaccination is recommended because there is currently an outbreak in Sri Lanka.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended for most travelers to Sri Lanka, including infants 6-11 months old.
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for travelers under 60 and may be considered for those 60 and older.
Measles
All travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with MMR vaccine at least two weeks before departure, including infants 6-11 months.
Typhoid
Typhoid vaccination is recommended for most travelers to Sri Lanka, especially if visiting rural areas or staying with local families.
Japanese Encephalitis
Japanese encephalitis vaccination is recommended for long-term travelers or those doing outdoor activities in rural areas. Not recommended for short-term urban travel.
Rabies
Consider rabies vaccination before travel since rabid dogs are common in Sri Lanka and rabies vaccines may not be readily available there.
Yellow Fever
Yellow fever vaccination is not recommended but is required for entry if coming from countries with yellow fever risk, including airport layovers over 12 hours.
